Bloomberg rocked NYC
Just some thoughts on some awesome things Mayor Bloomberg oversaw in NYC during his terms.
- Made NYC the safest large city in America.
- The population of NYC started to grow at an all time high since 1950
- Added 470 miles of Bike lanes in the city
- Worked to push CitiBike with the help of financial sponsors (6669 trips even defied the polar vortex)
- 656 New schools opened in NYC
- City schools have 22 of the top 25 performing schools in NY State
- 37% of NYC was rezoned to create a massive growth in new buildings even during the recession. Everything grew: the financial district, Chelsea, lower east side, Brooklyn, etc
- The smoke-free air act was instituted and applied across NYC
- Created PlaNYC to create green initiatives all across the city.
- Helped create Brooklyn Bridge Park
- Times Square has areas for pedestrians
- Opens High Line to pedestrians
- Added 50M tourists to the city!
- Puts credit card machines in taxis
- Presided over the first gay marriage in NYC
- Added letter grades to restaurants
- Built the tech center on the east coast and created amazing businesses in the process.
