ALA and JNPR

TheStreet.com wrote an interesting article on 22/3/06 about Alcatel eating away at Juniper's business.

See: http://tinyurl.com/gsq3r

The article has some points that are valid, for example Alcatel has a strong ethernet story. Since Juniper has excelled in core network infrastructure, they have focused on POS, 10GE, Channelized interfaces, ATM, clear channel leased line, and various technologies. I personally believe that JNPR does need a high density ethernet (GE) solution to compete in metro ethernet environments.

However, the article did not take into account that JNPR has released the E320 Broadband Router, which supports a High Density Ethernet (HDE) module that places 8 gigabit Ethernet ports in a single slot. With a BRAS that is targeting 128,000 subscribers in a single chassis, and plenty of BW to scale, a proven history of HQOS, I think JNPR is in a great position to deliver video.
