Kung Hei Fat Choi! and Waitangi Day!
I am not sure if more picture perfect days could exist, but I was awestruck at the beauty of today. A good lazy day to awaken after watching Magnolia last night after the fireworks on Wellington Harbour.
Woke to a blue sky, so blue that it seemed most unreal. After picking up the place, I made some lox & cream cheese on sesame bagels, and started studying a bit for an exam that I have this week.
Walked down to the Civic Square, carried my PowerBook down with me so I could keep studying, and watched some little kids in Chinese School sing some songs for the audience. Things like, "Hello Hello Ne Hao Ma", anyway it was cute. They wished the crowd happy chinese new year, and sure made alot of parents happy.
In the distance we saw the ships from global challenge sailing out of the harbour and helicoptors swarming them from above. It seems you can hire the heli's to take your around on scenic tours, and today must have been the day to do that, as they scurried about in the air, coming what looked close to the masts on the ships.
Later on, we walked over to some outdoor tents that were hosting some local break dancers rocking out to EPMD and James Brown. Pretty fresh moves, and good to see. Although the NYC street shows could put it to shame quite honestly. But that's NYC for you, over the top... best this, best that ... Actually I heard EMPD ( the cool cats with the fisherman hats ) is coming out with a new album. If ever there was a group that never sold out it's EPMD, always the same flows, and always making a point.
Saw a few local NZ bands / artists. A Maori Tina Turner. Never had a Paua sandwich before. Paua is a type of abalone, sort of like a clam, but only found in the sea near New Zealand. Paua meat is a traditional food of the Maori, and quite tasty. It's good on bread with some tomato sauce.
Today was Waitangi Day which commemorates the signing of a treaty at Waitangi.
