First Mini Mac's In NZ, and the trip home
[An image from the original post was not archived.]
It was quite an interesting trip out of California yesterday, or was it the day before yesterday? In anycase, Saturday morning, Pacific time, I didn't know if I was going to stay in Sunnyvale for a couple more days, or possibly go to Palm Springs, or better yet fly back to New Zealand. The Apple store in Santa Clara opened one hour earlier (9am) and we headed over to the shopping mall to wait in line with all of the other Mac'ers. An interesting bunch, most certainly. Quite a few dressed in their mac wares, others carried various apple paraphenalia. The lucky mac salesperson who contained the crowd into a wrapping line sported the new ipod shuffle.
We waited, and then the line started to move. We were waiting to purchase the Mac Mini which will soon become the multimedia server/ desktop in the house. Jenny and I actually picked up two Mac Mini's with the hope of selling one of them back in New Zealand. (BTW, it's listed on TradeMe.co.nz ;)
Later, after we planned to fly back, we made a mad dash for the airport to return the rental car, then get to the terminal. My massive suitecase, of which I had just received as a present last year, was packed so much and had the little brother suitecase strapped onto it's back, was applying all it's force onto the aluminum handle; until it gave way under pressure and snapped. Doh! So as I was in the airport and there was little chance of fixing the suitecase, I snapped the rest of the handle off and made do with the leather strap.
The flight was closed, I didn't have a handle on my suitecase, and the changing of multiple legs of flight would cost a few hundrew dollars each; that was until the awesome ticket agent came back with an answer. In the age of "buy a headset" and "three dollars for a beer" airlines, I was suprised to here that American Airlines would shuttle us from San Jose to San Francisco by limo, and then put us on a flight to LAX for free. All of this, so that we can make our International connections. Simply Awesome!
Jet lag is setting in, I should get some sleep...
