The Slyest Pair

By Truman Boyes · · 1 min read

While I was walking

                        Subtly I was talking

To myself

I ran my fingers through your imaginary hair

And suddenly there

You with my fingers in your hair

Verse after Verse

I rehearsed the sound of your whisper

Whispers while I ran my fingers through your hair

You turn and walk round me holding my hand like we are on the ballroom floor

Sly smile. You know what you do. Turn my world into banana cream pie.

So I guide you around me as we walk toward the door

Dancing on the ballroom floor

Black velvet roses

We kiss noses and giggle like it was our first time

First time that we were on the floor

First time that we were there

First time I ran my fingers through your hair

And I knew that the invisible bouncing balls in jazz music, that mark the beat that casually throws you for a number, were guiding us to sleep. Knee deep in your smiles

So we kept walking and talking, and I was running my fingers through your imaginary hair, telling stories and how we were the slyest pair.
